The Dye Remover as Red Dye scam was addressed with tonight's update. Now, Dye Remover is very distinctive and looks nothing like a bottle of Red Dye.

i marked up the price to 500, and scammed another guy out of that by selling the ashes to him.
Wow. That totally sucks that you did that.

Quote:
plus, once it catches on how all this scamming is legal, tons of people are going to be doing it.

so either way... scammers win, honest players lose.
First you cry about spilt milk, and then in the attempt to fix the situation go knock over someone else's.

An "honest player" wouldn't have willfully sold the ashes to another after being scammed and then contacting tech support about it. All that's happened here is scammers win, scammers lose.

What a bummer thread...

umm there is a bug in the trading window it happened to a guildy and me, i was trying to give her some dye. But it wouldnt never send the accepts to each other, we changed districts and that solved it. but i just wanted you all to know, where as his drop method might have been as scam there is a legitmate bug in the trade window as well.
I had a simiilar problem once with someone, where it wouldn't accept our trade and kept closing. We couldn't figure out what was happening, until he realized he didn't have enough room for the items.

perhaps i should further clarify:

unlike the person who scammed me, i was not returning the scam to be a jerk.

the reasons i did it were:

1. i was not going to be out 200 gold due to a scam. if NCSoft was not going to give me my gold back, then i was going to have to get it back myself by any legal means necessary

2. by scamming someone else, more people will become aware that the ashes scamming is a big huge issue. if enough people get mad about it, then NCSoft might reverse their current pro-scammer policy. if however, i just went away quietly and forgot about my gold and kept the issue in the closet, then the problem gets less publicity which in turn leads to me not helping to get the problem solved in the long-run. my goal was for the scamming chain to continue (ie: the guy i scammed scamming someone else to get his money back, and so on and so on) so that enough people will get mad about the issue until NCSoft changes their policy. granted that may not be how things actually turn out, because some guy might break the scamming chain, but i did the best i could in playing my part to bring about positive change in the grand scheme of things

That's got to be the most pathetic, hypocritical justification for scamming I've ever seen. You're not fooling anyone!

But, regardless, NCSoft doesn't have a "pro-scammer" policy. They have a "protect yourself" policy. They aren't being paid to hold our hands, and shouldn't be expected to reimburse us for our ignorance of game systems, our ineptitude at the market, or our errors in trust. They have absolutely no duty to protect you from your own naivete, nor any duty to penalize people who are clever (and cruel) enough to talk you into handing over a cow for a bean, or bypassing the safe trade system the game provides. We're not talking about hacking or robbery or trade window bugs, which would be another tale altogether.

This is no different from the policies of the other large MMO companies.

I am not really certain if my post will be responded to with anything more than one liner busllhit, as most of them are, but I am posting this here, in the hope someone will learn from my example, and perhaps be the happier for it, in the long run.

I will never again trade with another player outside of my own guild. Not ever. Period.

My reasoning for this is simple: I have been scammed in the past, and I have been witness to people DOING this shit to others. Justifying themselves and their behavior because the poor bastard fell for it is nothing more than denial of one being a dickhead.

Well guess what gimps? You cannot steal from me if I have nothing to do with you

I will offer people directions in the game, and I will give advice to those seeking it honestly but being treated like they are not there, or being made fun of, but I will have no further business delaings with human players. It pays little, and in the end, costs me much more than killing mobs until I have that 3rd ****ing SCALE I need.

Therefore, the trade chat text will never again grace my screen with pink. If I need something, I'll save for the mats, or I will use my drops. I get more colored drops than I think is sane, so I will make out fine. As for the quests, I just got althea's ashes ALONE, so anyone who stars that same old song and dance about solo can just talk to themselves.

I have listened to much of the banter on here, been involved with it, and in fact have come to like you all fairly well. I especially enjoy the sparring that comes up now and again, from both sides who always seem to be saying the same thing but cannot see it. LMAO. However, trade days with Fatal Kiss are dead.

End of story.

LMAO I did something very similar to myself. I was also crafting scale armor, and also needed more gold and went to sell some crap to get more gold. Well, in my haste, I somehow sold ALL of my scales =(

Sure you were. You got screwed so you decided to try to see if anyone else was as naive as you were.

Why not? You fell for it.

Really? By screwing other people you think word will get out faster than if you went to Piken Square stating in public to beware of this scam? Save your excuses for being an ass for someone that needs a friend bad enough to listen. Your goal was for the scamming to continue and that's the best you could do??? How pathetic.

Ironic, then, that you succeeded on that account without really trying.

Quote:

Come now, my friend, at least be willing to accept part of the blame. You're not out 200 gold because of a scam, you're out because you fell for the scam. You did not exercise due diligence and suffered the consequences.

They were under no obligation to.

Even if that meant cheating another player? Sorry, my friend, but you're a hypocrite and no better than the scammer who cheated you.

That is possibly the worst justification I've ever seen. You want to spread the word? Then tell people! After all, I don't think you would encourage your friend to lock his house by robbing him blind. Or would you?

No, you really didn't. You just contributed to the delinquency.

I'd have to agree with Mountain Man, bottom line is that you made two bad decisions.

I saw the "Gold" dye scam running last night, but I didn't say much because I didn't want to waste my time arguing with a fool - there is usually no way to tell who's the fool.

I do have an extra piece of the armor from the "Defend the Wall" Bonus quests due to my 2nd run at it yielded all 4 pieces (first run I had only found 2 but gave the dude 1 before I found the Charr). How legit is it to sell the extra piece as it states it has a value of 5? As it is an item quest (you got 4 items ala trader) vice the ashes trigger quest (the conditions are met when you go to x,y and pickup Z for trigger quest). I just have an extra piece now.

I only read first couple post on this... New update change the dye remover graphic. it doesn't look like red dye anymore. It has clear blue color with different shape bottle.
hmm.. Maybe, people will be scamming this and selling it as new color.. heheh..

I should go back to pre-searing and sell the dye remover as transparent dye that makes you all stealthy and stuff.

I was posting "WTB Rare Fire staff" in the trade channel -
finally, someone answers. I look at his stuff (a rare staff and a wrapping)
decide it's worth about 800 and tell him so.
We agree on a plat for the items. I drop a plat in the trade window and hit submit offer. The items are the same items I was looking at earlier... everything looks ok, so I hit Accept.
2 seconds go by, trade is cancelled.
He whispers "?????"
3 more attempts end the same way.
Then he whispers "It's a bug. Easy fix - Party with me and we leave town."
(At this point I know something is up -> but I like to see how dumb ppl think I am )
So, we party, and walk outside.
Then he says, "Ok, I'll drop the items, and you drop the gold."
Then I say "no, that's cool... thx anyhow, but I'm not a moron, or new to MMO's...."
He whispers, "I'll let you grab the staff first.... blah blah blah."
I put him on Ignore, and announce in public what he tried to do... Many references to D2 LOD followed.

Don't EVER trade items by dropping them outside town with someone. There's NO REASON to not use the trade window.

Good for a laugh, but I wish I could find someone to buy a good fire staff from, or drop one....
The reason the trade didn't work was because he had his items in his storage box and was trying to put his items into the trade window directly from the storage box. If he had put them in his inventory and then into the trade box, it would have worked fine.

true... but this is about scaming... is it not? I drop stuff all the time to share with my party members, which are usually guild members or my friends, just because i dont need it... except wands... salvage those with an expert, and u will most likely get steel...
